Jackson Fillmore Story

"in one word: PASSION! We make really good food, which is easy for us, because over the last twenty-five years we’ve been cooking the same style."

Jack

"We’re nice to everyone: no attitude, no pretension, we’re just happy to be serving our customers the good food they’ve been eating."

Jack

"We are happy to make special requests. My take is “if we have the ingredients, we make it.” Don’t you hate it when you go to a restaurant and they won’t give you what you want, just because it’s not what is listed on the menu?"

Jack

"During Jackson Fillmore’s lifetime, we’ve come up with so many dishes, that we don’t have room to put them all on the menu. When people come in & ask for one of the classics or their favorites, it makes us happy. It shows us that they’re a long-time client returning because they remember what they love. That’s what makes a restaurant great: memory provoking food, wine, and overall experience."

Jack
I came from New Jersey 1974. After traveling in Europe & Asia, I immediately found myself at home here in San Francisco. It’s been a magical experience ever since.
Got my first legitimate job in the kitchen at MacArthur Park, where I worked from ’75 through ’77.
Next, I worked at Vanessi’s on Broadway (77-79).  Vanessi’s was an iconic restaurant in the “Joe’s” tradition, where the cook’s line was in the dining room, behind the counter. I was in my element. All movers, shakers, & the who’s-who of San Francisco ate there. People like hotshot lawyers, rockers, & everyone in between. It was crazy!
Little Italy, on 24th and Castro, opened in 1979. I sold Little Italy in 1985, in order to open Jackson Fillmore. Jackson has been going strong ever since.
Since coming to the Bay Area I have been absorbing more & more knowledge of food & wine, & that has helped to shape the chef I am today.

Gnocchis taste like my grandma's and the carbonara is absolutely delicious. I recommend this to everyone!

Morgan D., Stanford, CA via Yelp.com 1/24/2012

Definitely my favorite Italian restaurant in the Pac Heights/Marina area. From the outside- it looks like a hole in the wall but it's really a great place to have a date or a fun family-like dinner with family/friends. The staff is knowledgeable on wine recommendations, the bruschetta is very tasty as is everything else. My favorite thing is still the zucchini. It's to die for!

Sforganized I., San Francisco, CA via Yelp.com 10/22/2012

Awesome place, our go to date night joint, great wine and great food always.

OpenTable Diner since 2008 - dined on 01/05/2013

The food and atmosphere here are fantastic.

Chris V., San Francisco, CA via Yelp.com 7/8/2012

Not ONLY did they accomodate 12 on a busy Friday nite, when our party was s'posta be 10, the food was divine, zucchini carpaccio, the antipasti and the zabaglione (hot AND cold) were to die for. And the vino recommendations were spot on. They'll always be at the tip top of my list!

Jill K., San Francisco, CA via Yelp.com 6/25/2012

LOVE! The owner is super awesome, helpful, knowledgeable, etc The food is delish and not too pricey at all, and the wines are priced even better It gets busy, that's for sure, but so worth the wait!!!

lle L., San Jose, CA via Yelp.com 9/30/2012

Great staff, delicious food and a nice neighborhood feel. From my first visit in 2002 to now, this restaurant consistently delivers the goods :-)

Dan A., San Francisco, CA via Yelp.com 11/20/2012

Bravo, to you Jackson Fillmore Trattoria for making me feel so at home. It is not often you can find a restaurant that has great food, wine, and still gives you the impression that you are at your in a place close to home. For the food. I've only been twice but everything has been great. The goat cheese antipasto if they have it is to die for. The gnocchi is decadent, and the tortellini al forno can't be beat, i swear its the best i've ever had. I will say the ambiance is kinda quirky, it makes it up in quality and a genuinely good time. I strongly suggest for family regathering and spending time with friends you haven't seen in ages you won't regret it.

Sean MC E., San Francisco, CA via Yelp.com 7/16/2012

Food was excellent! We had outstanding service. I highly recommend dining at Jackson Fillmore.
